"We met other international students in a mixer at the Student Hotel. The hosts gave each person a lock or a key, and it was up to us to open the lock. We quickly got to know each other, and I learned that there are students from China, Brazil, Singapore, South Korea, Canada, Lithuania, and also current students studying at the Hague. We officially started our classes the next day, and it was great to already have met some of our classmates. The speaker introduced the idea of understanding and embracing different paradigms, and becoming global citizens. The second speaker introduced us to our general module, the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. He spoke about the importance of these goals and the contributing factors to their success or failures. The introduction to the program was great, and I look forward to the upcoming days. In my elective class, Human Rights, Security, and Development, we were introduced to Professor Joris Voorhoeve, who spoke about the importance of understanding different ideas of peace and the influence of power. Once again, a great class!"
